Aeroseal & Duct Cleaning

Indoor Environmental Quality

Indoor Environmental Quality or formerly IAQ is improved by sealing leaks in the HVAC duct work.

Indoor Environmental Quality

We heat and air condition our homes not only to control temperature and humidity, very important things to control, but also to make them as safe and healthy as possible. We depend on the mechanical systems to accomplish this for us ,but sometimes they have weak points that fail us. According to the U.S. Department of Energy 25-40% of the conditioned air leaks from breaks in the ductwork.

Time spent indoors

“Indoor air quality” refers to the quality of the air in a home, school, office, or other building environment. The average American spends 90% of their time indoors where the concentrations of some pollutants are 2-5 times higher than the outdoor levels.

Costs

At this time, of any in the last 20 or so years, cost of energy to condition the air is a major concern. Post COVID we are seeing the effects of interrupted supply chain issues and the disruption of the energy sector because of the pandemic. Sealed ducts get the conditioned air to its destination rather than leak into spaces and wasting your dollars.

High utility bills? Stuffy rooms? Dusty house? It could be your duct system. Forced air heating and air conditioning systems the ducts are used to distribute conditioned air to the rooms throughout. In typical homes about 20-30% of the air that moves through the system is lost due to leaks, holes and poorly installed ducts. This results in higher utility bills and difficulty keeping the house comfortable. Some rooms may be too hot or too cold while others are the opposite. A properly sealed duct system will ensure the conditioned air you are paying for gets to the correct destination.

Typical Residence

Leaky, torn or disconnected ducts often in attic spaces or cavities.

Poorly sealed registers or ductwork outside the envelope (attic space)

Leaks at the furnace and filter

Restricted Air Flow from sharp bends or kinks in flexible ducts.

The benefits to you the homeowner of properly cleaned and sealed duct work.

  1. Improved Comfort - Sealing ducts from the inside will help with overall comfort issues, such as rooms that are too hot in the summer or too cold in the winter.

  2. Energy Savings - With current economic conditions with a supply chain that has been disrupted and storms in the areas where fossil fuel drilling occurs sealing ducts can improve system efficiency by as much as 20% or more.

  3. Air Quality - with people spending as much as 90% of their time indoors, where some pollutants are found to be 2 to 5 times higher than typical outdoor concentrations, sealing ducts reduces the risk of exposure. Ducts are often routed through wall cavities or other areas where they can pick up dust and other particles because of leaks in the ducts themselves increasing the risk of allergic reaction or asthma attacks. Sealing can minimize those risks!

  4. Improved Safety - During normal operation of appliances such as water heaters, clothes dryers, furnaces release combustion gases like carbon monoxide through their exhaust system. Leaky ductwork may cause “backdrafting” and draw these gases into the living space. Sealing minimizes these risks. "

  5. Overall Peace of Mind - The less energy you use in your home the less air pollution produced. Sealing you’re ducts and reducing the amount of energy used to heat or cool your home, you can have peace of mind that you have done the right thing for your family, you’re home and the planet.
